Why buy whipped cream in a can for your favorite treats when you can make your own in just minutes with this DIY Whipped Cream in a Jar? All you need is a little elbow grease and some music. Get ready to shake, shake, shake to whipped cream to perfection.
The most important rule for making whipped cream in a jar is to use a clean mason jar and cold heavy whipping cream. Also, be sure to not overfill your mason jar when adding the cream–you want to leave plenty of room for it to fluff up. I usually use a 12oz mason jar and add between 3/4 and 1 cup heavy whipping cream. Then, add the sugar and you’re ready to shake. If I’m making whipped cream for a fall dessert (like this Pear Galette or Hot Apple Pie Punch), I usually add a pinch of sugar along with my favorite warming spices, cinnamon and nutmeg. In the summer, I tend to stick with sugar and vanilla extract to enhance a fruity dessert (like Cherry Shortcake Skewers).
Now here’s the sneaky part about this fun and flavorful topping. Use it to enhance a last minute, store bought dessert. Here’s what I mean…It’s Thanksgiving and you’re just not feeling like making a pumpkin or pecan pie. No problem! Grab one from the bakery (I won’t even tell if you transfer it to your own pie plate!) and top it with your homemade DIY Whipped Cream in a Jar. Wallah! Thanksgiving dessert perfection! Is it summertime? Grab some fresh berries, mint and a jar of your homemade whipped cream and you’ll be ready for the picnic.
To note…the whipped cream stays fluffy in the jar for 24-48 hours. Store it in the refrigerator and use as needed. It’s delicious stirred in to hot chocolate and coffee too!
